Windows & Pots (Why parents have no to right to tell a boy where to go to school)

"Yeah, I know they're upset but it's my life playboy!"
As boyz were signing their letters of intent on Wednesday the fellas started choppin’ it up in the barber shop on the subject of being ungrateful. Saint Basil, the Greek bishop of the mid 300’s AD, asked the question, “Does not the gratitude of the dog put to shame any man who is ungrateful to his benefactors?” Then Timothy Dexter, the 19th century businessman, fired back with, “An ungrateful man is like a hog under a tree eating acorns, but never looking up to see where they come from.”

What completely blew my mind on Wednesday as these kids were signing their National Letters of Intent to go off to school on a full athletic scholarship; were the reactions of some of these parent’s at their kid’s decisions. Rashaan Evans, who is from Auburn, Alabama, had initially committed to Auburn decided at the last minute to go to Alabama. It was evident by his parents reaction that they were upset by his decision to play in Tuscaloosa. When ole boy announced his decision they weren’t supportive at all as seen by how they were wearing their emotions on their sleeves.

Then there was a kid that wanted to sign with Michigan State and excuse me for not knowing his name but his momma was so upset about his decision that it’s held up the signing. Because MSU wants to make sure momma is on board. Remember last year when some kid's mother stole the letter and the boy couldn't sign until they found her with the freakin' letter?

I know you remember the ghetto momma last year that tripped on national television during the All-American game? Her son announced that he would be going to Alabama and she wanted him to go to LSU and said it on TV like Shanaynay. Then she did it again with this year with her next child! Wheredeydodatat?

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! These kids have busted their butts to become the best high school players in the country! Do you realize how many millions of duns play high school football in America? So if they are in the Top 100 they’re probably gonna be a millionaire in a matter of 3 or 4 years bruh! So if ESPN is showing up to televise your child signing a letter of intent you need to shut up and enjoy the ride playa.

Yeah, I know that most of that is DNA but a lot of it is him putting in the work, staying out of trouble and going to freakin’ class. These kids have done enough work to take the burden off of their parents where they don't have to pay for college which costs anywhere from 100 stacks to 250 stacks depending upon where they decide to go to school and they’re sitting up here mad? It would be different if they had to pay for them to go to some school that they didn't like.

On some real talk, they need their butts whooped! And that’s the edited version bruh! Once you’ve gotten your kid to this point then it’s on him. Mommas and daddys have no say so on where a kid decides to go to school if they aren’t paying for it. If the kid wants to go to Alabama or anywhere else for that matter, then it’s his decision.

If it goes south then it’s on him. But you’ve got to trust that you’ve taught him enough up to this point to make good decisions about HIS future. You can’t live his life and if you force him to go somewhere else and it goes south he’s gonna always blame you.

He’s 17 or 18 years old now playboy. You’ve got to let him go to make his own way and signing with whomever he wants is the first step to him becoming a man. You just have to explain to him that this is his life and it starts with this decision.

Now I would be remiss if I let you go and didn’t say it so I will. So in my old school Big Momma voice with the raggedy house coat and blasted slippers that she’s been wearing since the civil rights movement, “Some of these damn mommas and daddys ain’t got a window or a pot and got the nerve to be sittin’ up here mad about where this boy wanna go to school for FREE.”

The conversation should be as simple as this... Son: "Hey ma and dad I've decided to go to The Northwest Ohio Presbyterian Peter's Rock Baptist Southeast Crossroads Pilgrim of the Latter Day Saints Methodist Eastern Star  of the Central Light of the World University!" Parents: "How much is that gonna cost us?" Son: "Nothing!" Parents: "Do they offer what you're looking for?" Son: "Yes." Parents: "Cool! Here's $20 bucks for the ride up and I'll holla at you on Christmas break!"  Stop me when I start lyin’ bruh!
