The Pain (Adrian Peterson's son dies)

"You already know I'm playing bruh!"
Walter Anderson, the famous artist, once said, “Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself. Then Joseph Campbell, the famous writer and lecturer, stood up and said, “Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.”

Well the joy doesn’t really burn out the pain but it makes it easier to deal with. The pain never goes away playboy. On Friday, Minnesota Vikings running back, Adrian Peterson’s 2 year old son was pronounced dead in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital after sustaining injuries during an alleged aggravated assault by his girlfriend’s boyfriend on Wednesday. In my hood voice, “Killed by his freakin’ baby momma’s dude!”

As soon as the news broke boyz on social media started blasting A.D. (All Day) for being at practice, not being at the hospital and criticizing him for saying that he was going to play on Sunday. What blows me away is that everybody’s got a freakin’ opinion about what this man should do and how a boy should grieve.

On some real talk, the only reason that you even know this dun’s name is because of how he’s been able to grieve his entire life playa. He’s become the gladiator that you see on Sundays because of the way he deals with the pain.

All of you cats out here that are wearing his jersey, buying tickets to see him play, stopping him in the streets for a picture and idolizing him need to understand that if he dealt with pain differently you wouldn’t care to know his name.

When ole boy was 7 years old his older brother Brian was hit by a drunk driver and died in A.D.’s arms. His daddy was in prison while he was in high school and most of his college career. While he was in Indianapolis the night before he was about to work out for all 32 teams at the NFL Combine his brother Chris Paris was shot and killed. These media type cats kill me always saying, “his half-brother.”

Ima keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! In the hood ain’t no half-brothers or sisters playboy! If you got the same momma or daddy or a combination of both that’s your brother or sister. Saying “half” says that we ain’t really family and if you’ve got any part of my blood then ain’t no half to it pimpin’! I don’t know how they get down in the suburbs but in the hood boyz were 100 percent family.

So the pain is the beast that is Adrian Peterson bruh! There is no way to separate it. On September 4, 2004 my son and I were sitting in the stands at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial when the most highly recruited player in the country was to make his debut against Bowling Green. A.D. didn’t start in that game because an upper classmen named Kejaun Jones was the starter at the time. However, every time ole boy would jog onto the field everybody would stand up and the place would explode when he touched the rock.

In his first game in Norman he went 100 yards on 16 carries and a legend was born. He completely destroyed defenses that year finishing 2nd to Matt Leinart in the Heisman voting and getting robbed because he was a freshman! This cat finished with 1,925 yards on 339 touches to lead the nation in carries.

The pain that you criticize him for not showing has become the masterpiece that you see on Sundays and the painting that he’s been working on his entire life! Genius’ all have a way of filtering pain through their art. Vincent van Gogh had issues with painful anxiety and mental illness, Mary J. Blige channeled her pain through her music and so on and so forth. If it were not for the pain and the way that he deals with it playboy you wouldn’t love Adrian Peterson or any of the above.

Let that man deal with the death of “His” child the best way he knows how. If he decides to play or not will be up to him and not some dun on Twitter trying to solve someone else’s problems. The some cat that is talking crazy about ole boy will be standing in front of the stadium on Sunday with his freakin’ Adrian Peterson jersey on loving his dirty draws for the same reason that he’s criticizing him. For the way he deals with the pain! Stop me when I start lyin’!
