"World Champions bruh?" Boyz say it and nobody blinks! |
The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzcshe once said, "The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions." The Victorian-era English author Samuel Butler broke it down like this, "The truest characters of ignorance are vanity, pride and arrogance." The old playas in the hood kept it real by just saying, "Nobody likes an arrogant punk!"
Now that Super Bowl XLVII is in the books and the Ravens have been crowned king of the National Football League. Let's take a look at this whole championship thing bruh. For year's I've often wondered why our professional sports teams call themselves "World Champions" once they win the LEAGUE championship. All of these duns to do it, the NFL, NBA as well as Major League Baseball. Why?
On some real talk, I think that it's par for the course for Americans to be arrogant and this is just another reason why people from other countries don't like us. How can you fix your mouth to call yourself a "World Champion" when you didn't compete on a world stage? The Heat aren't the world champions bruh! People play basketball all over the world and the NBA is just one of many leagues. Yeah I know that they had many of the best players in the world on that team but they didn't compete against duns from around the world to win that title. That's what the Olympics are for playboy!
The same goes for Major League Baseball. How can we call it the "World Series" when the only teams playing in the freaking tournament are from America? That's like saying that we won the national hood championship and the only cats that we played were from our hood. Sure, my block had better G's but we didn't compete against every hood in America to win the title. That's like some chick winning a beauty contest in New York and then telling boyz that she's Miss America because New York has some of the baddest chicks out.
Let's keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Ultimately, it's like ole Jeromie Rome winning the Pimp of the Year Contest in Detroit because he rocked the hottest gators. Only to turn around and say that he's the World Champion Pimp without going up against boyz like Bishop Majic Don Juan, Rudy Ray Moore A.K.A Dolemite, Shaft or Huggy Bear!
The only true "World Champions" are the cats that participate in the World Cup in soccer or the tennis players, golfers or duns that run track that compete at the World Championships. Why? Because the entire world participated in those tournaments. So whoever wins it, is the true "World Champion".
Now that the Ravens have won the Super Bowl everybody will be introducing them as the "World Champions" and no one is gonna blink playboy. They only play this type of football in America! So therefore, it's ignorant to call them "World Champions" if we're the only duns playing it! They're the champions of the freakin' NFL for crying out loud! Sure, they play football in Canada but the field is 120 yards long and it's pretty much a developmental league for the NFL. So OK, if only 2 duns are playing. How can you claim THAT as a WORLD title when they didn't even play each other? It's misleading or like Big Momma used to say, "You a lie & the truth ain't in you!"
In my Ice Cube and Das EFX voice, "You need to check yo self before yo wreck yo self!" because our attitudes about who and what we are can sometimes be terrible. Sure, we probably have some of the best athletes in the world. However, that doesn't mean that we've always got the best TEAMS in the world. I can remember back to 2004 when the U.S. Olympic basketball team picked up a bronze medal. We probably had the best set of athletes in the tournament but we didn't have the best TEAM. So to say that we've got the best athletes and therefore we should call our league champions "World Champions" is arrogant and ignorant homeboy.
If there were a world tournament played every year for all of the baseball, basketball and football league champions around the world and our teams won those joints then I'd agree. If we win those "world series", if you will, then you can wear the tag "World Champion", but until then stop lyin' to folks and making it bigger than what it is.
Holla At Ya Boy!
