Atmosphere (Why George Hill changes the Pacers vibe for the better)

"That's what I'm talkin' bout playa!"
As I was standin’ outside of the Magic Kingdom kickin’ it with the fellas, I noticed these three cats arguin’ about leadership. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.” John C. Maxwell pulled off those famous ears and shouted, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Then John Quincy Adams poured out a lil’ liquor for all the dead homies and said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do to more and become more, you are a leader.”
Well playas…the Indiana Pacers seem to be a completely different team when George Hill is on the floor. I can’t explain it nor will I attempt to dissect the reasonin’ as to why but I will say this…that dun needs to stay healthy because he inspires other to do more and become more! When he’s on the floor the energy changes for the better and they look like a basketball team on a mission. On Sunday night they got out of Orlando alive with a 106-99 win to end this season’s second longest losin’ streak.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! George Hill didn’t lead the team in scorin’ or assists but he led them in attitude playboy. For years I’ve always said, “Swagger is the ability to walk into a room and change the atmosphere in it without sayin’ a word.” Well for some reason ole George changes the atmosphere and the attitude on the floor as soon as he steps on it. He only played 20 minutes last night but he was able to peel off 20 points, 6 rebounds and throw 3 dimes. That was enough to kick start the engine to get the rest of the fellas to play at a higher level.

The Pacers finished with 6 cats in double figures. David West led them with 20 and the homie Damjan Rudez went to work on these boyz as he dropped a career high 18 with 16 of them comin’ in the fourth quarter. Rodney Stuckey put 15 in the kitty as C.J. Watson was one shy of a 12 pack. Even ole Roy Hibbert lived up to his potential when he put up 11 points and snagged 13 rebounds. All a boy needs out of him is 10 and 10 EVERY night and we’re cool.

Leadership on the floor has been needed and I don’t care where they get it from but it’s got to be there. Someone has to be aggressive with the basketball, walk around with crazy confidence and be willin’ to show the way EVERY night. For the last two ball games it just happens to be George Hill. So if that’s what it is pimpin’, then so be it.

The Pacers shot 51 percent from the field and 40 percent from downtown. They moved the ball well with 27 team assists.  However, they were only 66 percent from the foul line. That’s a problem playa! They call them free throws for a reason and you’ve got to take advantage of them.

There is a very small window for error with this team and at times I believe that they realize that because you can see the pressure all over their faces. That’s why it so important to have leadership on the floor at all times. So somebody else is gonna have to step up.  Up next…Toronto at the crib, where they’ll play the next 15 of 20 games and stop me when I start lyin’!

         3)    Pimpin’: My man, my boy, my dawg. The person that I’m talkin' to.
