The Oliva Pope Move (Why Richard Sherman has been smiling & laughing with the media all week)

"Is this smile good enough?"
All the fellas were gettin’ it in like they normally do at the barber shop when these two cats starting jawing about distractions. Joel Olsteen knocked over Mr. Willie’s dominoes and said, “Sometimes, I think if you get away from what you’re called to do, it’s more of a distraction.” Then Derek Jeter told his barber to hold up on his fade as he got up and said, “I think when things linger, that’s when they become a distraction. I don’t want any distractions.”

The Seattle Seahawks feel the same way ole Derek does playboy. That’s why they’ve been pulling the Olivia Pope move with Richard Sherman all week. Now boyz have been arguing since Sunday as to whether or not ole boy was unprofessional in his post-game rant about Crabtree. Like I said from jump he made the game about him and not his team therefore he went sideways.

Whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant. The fact is, he was unprofessional in the way he handled himself. Here’s why pimp! Whenever you have to do the media circuit nonstop for 4 days to clean up the mess, you handled whatever you did wrong because 90 percent of reality is perception.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! These duns are about to play in the Super Bowl next Sunday. They will arrive in the New York/New Jersey area on Monday and Media Day is Tuesday. They can’t afford as a T.E.A.M. to show up on Media Day still answering questions about Richard Sherman bruh!

Sure, will the media be all over Sherm at Media Day? Absolutely! But what the team doesn’t want is some dun asking the freakin’ offensive linemen or receivers etc. questions about Sherm or spending every waking moment talking about what he did or didn't do. That’s why they’ve been in crisis management all week. Thus, Olivia Pope!

They’ve got ole girl standing in the background telling this dun what to and how to say whatever is being said. Smile when you say this, laugh when you say this, look into the camera when you answer this, be direct yet playful when you answer this.

Now I know all of the duns in the barber shop disagree with me because they wanna keep it real and tell ole boy to be who he is. I get that playa but the Seahawks are trying to win a freakin’ Super Bowl and they need for all distractions to go away until after the game next Sunday. Then Sherm can pull his pants down and moon the world if he wants to bruh. But as for now he needs to fall in line and be a team player.

Let me put this on your head playboy! Sherm has an unbelievable story that the media is telling right now. He grew up in Compton in the war zone, graduated No.2 in his high school class, went on to Stanford and graduated with a degree in Communications etc. It’s a great story of survival and accomplishment under tough circumstances right?

So the media is gonna run with that story all next week. Here’s the problem bruh! These media cats are so superficial and clueless that they don’t realize that 25 to 30 other cats on the team can tell the same story. Most of the brothers on the team grew up in the ghetto and wasn’t supposed to live past their 18th birthday too bruh! They may not have gone to Stanford but they did go to college. Just going to college from most environments is like making it to Harvard.

To survive the war zone and make it to the NFL is an unbelievable story in its own right. Don’t you think these boyz all want to tell their stories next week? Sure they do! But the team understands that dissension can easily creep up if everybody is still answering questions about Sherm. If a boy only gets 10 minutes to shine on Media Day and he spends 6 of those 10 answering questions about Sherm he's pissed!

Why do I know that media cats will ask a boy about what he thinks about another player and what he did? Because I see it every time I’m in an NFL or NBA locker room. As soon as I hear the question I say to myself, “Why are you asking him about another player. Just go ask the dun in question.” I guess it’s the hood in me and being trained to keep other folks names out of my mouth unless I want beef. Rule 2 Section 4 Article 7 of the Hood Code of Conduct says, “Never answer questions about another cat because you didn’t see nothing even if you saw it all!”

Believe me bruh, everybody on that team wants to tell their story and be seen and nobody wants to talk about Sherm but Sherm! So let him have a crowd around him during the Media Day festivities. However, when they come to talk to the other players, boyz don’t want their time wasted with questions about Sherm.

Ole boy Derrick Coleman is freakin’ deaf for crying out loud. Don’t you think that he wants to talk about his journey to the league and to the Super Bowl too. Everybody on that Seahawks team has a Big Momma, a Nana, a Mama, a Madea, a Mema, a Nana, an Abuela or whatever they call her that wants to see her baby at the Super Bowl talk about their journey not Sherm’s  journey or his foolishness. That’s real talk!

Again, Sherm was unprofessional in the way that he handled the post-game joint last week because of the affect that it could have on the team next week. Boyz have to understand that whatever you accomplish in life is always bigger than you. Sherm didn’t get to the Super Bowl by himself so he can’t take all of the shine next week. If he does it will become the ultimate distraction that keeps them from winning. I'm just givin' it to you like an O.G. is supposed to do playa! Stop me when I start lyin’!
