Man Overboard!

"Sacrificial Lamb"

Just weeks after Ohio State's program has all but imploded under the tattoo scandal of extra benefits. The Oregon Ducks are scrambling to make sure that Pandora's Box doesn't open in Eugene. Starting cornerback Cliff Harris, 20, was cited Sunday morning after police said they clocked him driving 118 mph on a suspended license in a rental car.

Head coach Chip Kelly announced that Harris would be suspended Wednesday after the school said its compliance office was looking into the matter because the car Harris was driving had been rented by a university employee. Kelly announced in a statement that at the very least, Harris will sit out Oregon's season opener against LSU at Cowboys Stadium in Texas on Sept. 3
.
After that, Harris' status would be dependent on his adherence to the football program's rules.
"Cliff's future clearly is in Cliff's hands," Kelly said. "Earning an opportunity to represent the University of Oregon and this football program certainly rests far beyond a player's ability on the field of play. Our behavior out of the spotlight often is more important and will be held to a higher standard. Until Cliff is able to conform to the same standards all of us must comply with, his status will remain unchanged."

The fact that Harris was driving 118mph wasn't the major issue here. Although he put his life and several others in danger as a result of his actions the university is really concerned about how his actions will affect the school's football program. The issue here is the fact that a university employee rented Harris the vehicle. That's a major NCAA violation and it only takes one for people to start snooping around and the skeletons will start to fall out of the closet.

The Duck's going to class today!

Kelly is smart enough to know that and he's willing to sacrifice his starting corner to save the ship! Don't think for one moment that Oregon made it to the BCS National Title game without some extra benefits floating around Eugene? It's the nature of the beast.

There's no tradition of winning at Oregon and all of a sudden these guys show up in the national title game? Nobody wants that box open! I'm just just sayin'. The Dam is starting to leak and some kid has his finger on the whole. If you move slightly in either direction the whole thing will blow. There isn't a kid on the Ducks squad driving anything today. I can bet that Chip Kelly has grounded the whole team from driving until this thing passes over. Bicycles only! They aren't going to have another Terrelle Pryor pulling up while the media is all over campus.

  2. WOW! How stupid can you be? Please tell me he had been drinking or something....we all make mistakes but you have to be an idiot to take a chance like this at this time. He is dumber than Terrelle Pryor driving up in a new car the day his coach got fired! WTF these kids are gone, just plain selfish. He has put the entire program in jeopardy.....

  3. Jay, great read. I cannot help but look to the potential on feild impact this should have for Ducks. Hard pressed to find a bigger all around player that Oregon has in Harris - whomped NATION (returnees) Punt return Yds & Special Tms TDs & led PAC-12 in 2010 in Int (6) & Pass Breakups, & passes defended, Ect. Vs Jefferson & LSU this is a Bonehead move that sincerely could make a very lg impact on Ore outcome on Sept 3 in Arlington. All the best, Jay
